FUGITIVE CARMEN MARIA WERMUTH CAPTURED

Steven M. Martinez, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's Las Vegas Field Office, announces the apprehension of Carmen Maria Wermuth. On January 26, 2006, a federal arrest warrant was issued by the U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington, Seattle, Washington, charging Wermuth with International Parental Kidnaping, a violation of Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 1204.

On January 26, 2006, Wermuth was located in downtown Reno, Nevada, with her minor child. Wermuth was taken into custody without incident. The child was placed in protective custody and returned to Seattle, Washington, on January 27, 2006.

The Reno Police Department assisted with arrest of Wermuth and placement of the minor child in protective custody.

Wermuth will have an Initial Appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Reno, Nevada, on January 29, 2006.
