FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 09, 2007

Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Las Vegas Division, Steven M. Martinez, announces that today, February 09, 2007,  fugitive Brian Michael Jones, date of birth December 29, 1956, wanted out of Las Vegas, Nevada, was located and arrested, without incident, in a rural area 120 kilometers outside Nan, Thailand, by Agents of the FBI and the Royal Thai Police..

Jones was wanted for the kidnapping and rape of a woman in Las Vegas, Nevada.  In August of 1999, the victim's car became inoperable in the desert sand.  Jones reportedly approached the victim and told her that he could pull her car out of the sand with his truck which was at his house.  The victim then went with Jones to his house.  In stead of getting into his truck, it is alleged that Jones held the victim hostage for several hours while he raped and performed other sexual acts on her.  The victim was eventually able to escape and run to safety.  In September of 1999, Jones was arrested in Clark County, Nevada for sexual assault, kidnapping, and battery with intent to commit sexual assault.  However, he was released on bail in November of 1999.  Jones failed to make a court appearance in 2000, and a federal arrest warrant was subsequently issued by the United States District Court, District of Nevada, after Jones was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

The investigation into Jones' whereabouts was conducted after a lengthy investigation by the Las Vegas Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT), made up of law enforcement personnel from the FBI, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and the Henderson Police Department. It is also noted that this fugitive was profiled on the America's Most Wanted television show.
